To understand the secrets to motivation you must first understand what motivation is. Many people think that motivation is a “thing” that gets someone to do something. In other words, many believe to become motivated there has to be a stimulus such as a speaker, song, and etc. The truth is motivation is only internal. One is only motivated by personal values. An individual speaker or song cannot motivate someone. The person cannot motivate. They have to touch an individual personal value to motivate. Motivation is a “reason” someone acts or behaves a certain way. A motivational speaker or song has to give a “reason” that correlates with one’s values to be effective in motivating. Personal values are things that one values. Personal values give us direction. We will either protect and honor our values or complain about how something or someone is violating our values. Either way, we respond to our values.
The secret to motivation is to focus on your values. Constantly remind yourself of your value. When values are provoked one will be motivated to defend them. What do you value?
